I discovered this challenge about four weeks into the 2011 round :( [about three weeks too late] & was not able to participate. Of course this does not mean I couldn't study and memorize on my own--which I did do--but not near the amount and time that I should have. So this year, 2012, I was looking forward to joining the Siesta ranks. But much to my dismay they are taking a siesta themselves, breaking until 2013!
So I've decided to do it on my own for the duration of 2012 on my blog. I will post a new verse on the 1st & 15th of every month--asking you to hold me accountable. You are welcome to join me if you like; I hope you will. Just leave your verse in the comments spot below the post [please include your translation] or write it down somewhere else. I doesn't matter where you record it. I have as poor a memory as the next person; thinking about my life in 20 years scares me to death. But if I can do it, you can, too!
And who knows, maybe I'll come up with a cool name for this activity. Suggestions are welcomed! I can't promise any wonderful celebration party with strobe lights or Beth Moore as speaker and there definitely will not be a scholarship fund to assist you financially in your travels to said, non-existent celebration. [Unless, of course, God makes it happen! In which case I will have my people contact Beth's people to arrange a speaking engagement :)].
So here we go, February 15, 2012 [my 3 month anniversary at my new job/career!]:
1 John 3:15-17
New International Version (NIV)15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him. 16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
Hebrews 9:27-28
ReplyDeleteNIV
27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
